Awakening the Heart-Mind, Day-Long Retreat
October 8, 2022, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Venue: Broadmoor Community Church, 315 Lake Ave, Otto Hall
An extension to the Mindfulness in Theory & Practice class, this day-long retreat is both a fitting finale for students of the course as well as an opportunity for experienced practitioners to deepen their meditation practice. You do not need to have taken the Mindfulness in Theory & Practice class to attend the retreat, but please be aware that the retreat is not appropriate for those new to meditation.
"Heart-Mind" refers to the Buddhist concept of citta, often translated as just "mind." Here in the West we tend to see our mental and emotional centers as two separate functions with two separate bodily locations (head & heart). In Buddhist psychology, the mental and the emotional centers are the same center. It expresses an idea that our mental and emotional selves are inextricably intertwined and interdependent. In "Awakening the Heart-Mind" we will explore Vipassana (insight) and Metta (Loving-Kindness) meditation practices.
The retreat will be conducted in person unless the pandemic situation changes, and a Zoom option will not be available. It will be conducted in a traditional "silent" style, with alternating sitting and walking meditation along with instruction. Lunch will be provided so participants won't need to leave leave the retreat campus. This retreat is offered without charge, though donations are appreciated to offset the costs of venue and food.
One-on-one appointments will also be available for those who desire one. Feel free to contact Keary if you have any questions about the retreat.
Registration is now open! I recommend registering as soon as possible to ensure your spot at the retreat.
